Hall of Fame History
Welcome to the Watertown High School Athletic Hall of Fame
Over more than a decade of local tradition had been born and cemented, through this tribute to Watertown's finest athletes, teams, and coaches. The induction ceremonies have become a forum for the reunion of literally thousands of neighbors and friends. The community that athletic participation builds is crucially important. Our past athletic success sets a high standard for our future. May we always act to build that future in a way consistent with our collective ideals.
Even as world events rage; even as quick cash seems to trump educational achievement for too many athletes and programs; even as advertisements sprout wherever camera lenses pan, even then, the annual events in this room have made it easy to remember what athletics are supposed to be about. The members of this Hall, inducted individually or as a team, stand for something special. Everyone honored this evening could run as fast, throw as far, as anyone who played the games they shared. But tonight is less about numbers than about neighborhood, about the character sports can build and the bond across class, age, and viewpoint they can cement. The Hall exists to foster and continue those connections, through community activity and scholarships for student-athletes, into the far-flung future.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made this evening possible. We are grateful for the continuing enthusiasm of the Town of Watertown and the Watertown Public Schools.
Special credit goes to the Hall's Board of Directors, who worked hard to put this event together and selected this evening's slat of inductees with a keen sense of fairness and of history. And, of course, we are grateful for your presence with us. Ultimately, though, tonight could not have happened without the talents of the athletes we honor. We are proud of their achievements and glad for the community they have enriched.
Sincerely,
Robert Kaprielian
